What does proofreading not cover?
Content changes, rewriting and fact-checking are not part of a proofread. This is the last pass before publication: typos, punctuation, formatting consistency and page layout. Deeper work on the writing belongs in copy editing.
Can you proofread a printed proof copy?
Yes. We can work from a printed proof, a digital proof or a PDF, whichever stage you are at. Reading the laid-out proof catches things a manuscript read cannot, such as a chapter opening on the wrong page.
How long does proofreading take, and when should I book it?
Five to seven business days. Book it once editing and layout are finished and before files go to print, so the version we read is the version that publishes and no new errors slip in behind us.
