Gate-Fold Brochures: questions
What is a gate fold?
A gate fold has two outer panels that fold in to meet at the center, like a pair of doors. The reader opens both at once and sees the inside as one wide spread, which is why it suits a reveal: a new building, a hero product, a floor plan or a menu.
How do I set up a gate-fold file?
The two outer panels have to be slightly narrower than the inner ones so they close flush, so lay the artwork out flat at the full sheet size and mark the fold positions. Keep type 0.125 inch clear of every fold and edge, and add 0.125 inch of bleed.
What quantities and papers can I order?
Runs are 250, 500, 1,000 and 2,500 on 80lb gloss, 100lb gloss or 100lb cover. Heavier stock holds the fold crisply for a piece that will be handled a lot. Every run is printed to order in Mount Ida and ready in 5 business days after the file check.
