Tri-Fold Brochures: questions
What size is a tri-fold brochure when folded?
An 8.5x11 sheet tri-folds to roughly 3.67x8.5, which fits a standard #10 envelope and most literature racks. 8.5x14 folds to about 4.67x8.5, and 11x17 gives a tall 5.67x11 panel. Panel widths are not equal: the panel that folds in is cut slightly narrower.
How do I set up tri-fold artwork so the panels line up?
Set the file at the flat size in horizontal orientation, two pages for outside and inside, with 0.125 inch bleed and a 0.125 inch safe zone. Keep text off the fold lines, and make the fold-in panel about 1/16 inch narrower than the other two so it tucks cleanly.
What quantities and papers can I order?
Brochures run at 250, 500, 1,000 or 2,500. 80lb gloss is the light, easy-folding standard; 100lb gloss adds body and color depth; 100lb cover is stiffest, better for a piece that is handled often. Orders are ready in 5 business days after the file check.
