The wood stays visible
An open frame borders the canvas without a mat or glass, so you see both the print and the grain.
Rustic, not fussy
Bare wood and printed canvas suit a room where a polished gallery frame would look out of place.

Hanging Wood Open Framed Canvas: questions
What is an open framed canvas?
It is a canvas print held in a wood frame that sits around the canvas rather than over it, leaving a visible gap or lip so the edge of the canvas shows. There is no glass and no mat, which keeps the surface texture of the canvas in plain view.
What kind of image suits a wood open frame?
Landscapes, wildlife, farm and lake scenes, black-and-white photography and hand-lettered quotes all sit well against bare wood. Images with warm tones tend to agree with the grain. Very cool, high-gloss studio shots can fight it, and usually look better in a clean modern frame.
Can I order a pair of open framed canvases?
Yes. Quantities are 1 or 2, so you can hang one piece or a matched pair above a couch or bed. Send each image at full size; we check resolution and color before printing, and your order is ready in 5 business days.
