Which base coating should I pair with spot UV?
Matte or soft touch. Spot UV works by contrast, so the duller the base, the more the glossy area stands out; soft touch gives the strongest effect and a velvety feel. Gloss as a base is not recommended because the spot UV would blend in. Heavier stock, 16pt and up, holds the raised layer best.
How do I set up a spot UV mask for my business card?
Send your 3.5" x 2" print file with 0.125" bleed, and a second file or layer that shows the spot UV areas as solid 100% black on white, in vector, aligned exactly to the artwork. Keep UV shapes 0.125" from the trim and avoid strokes thinner than 0.5pt, which will not register cleanly.
How many spot UV cards can I order, and how soon?
Runs of 100, 250, 500, 1,000 or 2,500. If it is your first spot UV design, 100 or 250 lets you see the effect in hand before committing to a larger run. Cards are ready in 5 business days once your artwork and UV layer pass our file check.
