A spine you can print on
The flat glued spine gives you a place for the title, so the catalog is findable on a shelf.
Lies flat and stacks
Square edges stack neatly on a counter or in a mailing box instead of splaying like a stapled book.
Four ways to bind it
Perfect binding suits thicker books, while saddle stitch, wire-o and coil suit shorter page counts.
Perfect-Bound Catalogs: questions
How many pages do I need for perfect binding?
Perfect binding needs enough paper to form a spine that holds glue, so the higher page counts, 24 and 32, work best. At 8, 12, 16 or 20 pages, saddle stitch, wire-o or coil binding holds up better and opens more easily on a desk.
How should I supply pages for a catalog?
Send a single PDF with the pages in reading order, plus a separate file for the cover. Build at 8.5" x 11" or 5.5" x 8.5" with 0.125" bleed and keep text 0.125" inside the trim. Allow extra margin at the spine so nothing is lost in the glue.
Do page counts have to be a multiple of four?
For saddle stitch, yes — sheets fold in half, so pages come in groups of four, which is why 8, 12, 16, 20, 24 and 32 are the counts offered. The same counts apply to the other bindings. Runs of 50 to 1,000 are ready in 5 business days.
